The Honma family was famously "wealthier than a feudal lord." Explore their exquisite private Japanese strolling garden and grand traditional mansion.

2. Ken Domon Museum of Photography –

3. Sankyo Soko (Rice Storehouses) –

Built in 1893, these 12 massive, black-roofed storehouses are an absolute icon of Sakata. Walk the deeply atmospheric, stone-paved path shaded by a row of 35 giant Zelkova trees.

Note for the walk: The area involves walking along stone-paved paths. Wearing comfortable sneakers is highly recommended.
