Hiroshima & Miyajima: Itsukushima Shrine & Castle(7h)

Pick up & Drop off at Hiroshima Port

1.Miyajima Island & Itsukushima Shrine –

Your first stop is Miyajima Island, one of Japan’s most scenic and spiritual destinations. The highlight of your visit is Itsukushima Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its iconic “floating” torii gate that appears to rise out of the Seto Inland Sea during high tide. This centuries-old Shinto shrine is dedicated to the deities of the sea, storms, and harvest, and its unique design reflects the harmony between nature and spirituality. Take a leisurely stroll along the boardwalks and admire the beautiful wooden architecture and the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and sea. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the charming streets of Miyajima, where you can sample local delicacies like fresh oysters and maple leaf-shaped pastries known as "momiji manju." The island is also home to friendly deer, which are considered sacred and freely roam the area, adding to the magical atmosphere.

2.Shukkeien Garden

After returning to Hiroshima, you’ll visit Shukkeien Garden, a stunning example of Japanese landscape design that dates back to 1620. The name "Shukkeien" means "shrunken-scenery garden," as its design incorporates miniature landscapes representing mountains, valleys, and rivers. Meander along the winding paths, cross elegant stone bridges, and marvel at the koi-filled ponds and seasonal flowers. This peaceful garden provides a perfect retreat from the city’s bustle and is a place of reflection and relaxation. Whether it’s spring cherry blossoms, summer greenery, autumn foliage, or winter serenity, Shukkeien offers beauty year-round and a glimpse into the refined aesthetics of traditional Japanese culture.

3.Hiroshima Castle (Exterior – Optional Photo Stop) –

If time permits, enjoy a brief stop at Hiroshima Castle, also referred to as “Carp Castle.” Originally constructed in 1589, this historic structure was destroyed during the atomic bombing of 1945 but was later restored to its former glory. Surrounded by a moat and lush greenery, the castle is an iconic symbol of Hiroshima’s history. While the tour includes an exterior photo stop, you’ll still be able to appreciate the castle’s exquisite architecture and learn about its role during Japan’s feudal period. It serves as a testament to Hiroshima’s resilience and dedication to preserving its cultural heritage.
